Les Ateliers Ruby - Munich 90 Collection

Les Ateliers Ruby celebrates the 90th anniversary of BMW Motorrad by releasing the exclusive “Munich 90″ collection of luxury motorcycle helmets. The collection pays homage to both the legendary models which helped BMW’s motorcycle division flourish and the motorcycle racing culture it inspired with five designs executed by Ruby’s Head Designer, Jérome Coste. All of the helmet designs are currently available in Ruby’s Pavillon, Belvedere, and Castel styles and are individually numbered.

High Museum of Art Atlanta - Dream Cars

Currently showing at the High Museum of Art Atlanta, is the exhibition Dream Cars, representing 80 years of concept automobiles. From their website:

The automobile has evolved from curiosity to daily necessity. Its form has advanced from the horseless carriages of the early twentieth century to the sleek, highly functional objects we know today. The experimental, concept, or “dream car,” as it became known in the early 1950s, has long been a dynamic tool allowing designers to showcase and demonstrate forward-thinking automotive design ideas. Concept cars were not objects the public typically could purchase, but rather the testing ground for innovations that might find expression in automobiles produced decades later. This exhibition explores the innovative designs that sparked ideas of future possibility and progress. It examines the dream car through five themes: individual makers, the impact of styling, visionary designers, the design process, and the influence of automobile fairs.

Chosen from hundreds of concept cars produced between 1932 and the present day, the visions for these automobiles are exciting to behold. Like most concept cars, those on display were never intended for production. Imagine an egg-shaped electric car, an exterior surface made of flexible fabric, or a jet fighter rolling down the highway – all of these were among the ideas dreamed up by designers and are featured in these galleries. The "dream" represented by these cars was that of future possibilities and pushing the limits of imagination and design.

Cristiana Couceiro

Beautiful collages from Lisbon based artist Cristiana Couceiro, whose work has appeared in the New York Times & New York Magazine. Cristiana got her start early as a child tearing up magazines & gluing together different shapes & colors. Later she would evolve her work to the computer. In a recent issue of Moloko, she talked about process & gathering source material. “On Saturdays I like to go through the flea market collecting memories. Feira da Ladra as we call it here in Lisbon. That means Thief Fair, which is funny collecting other people’s memory to build a new one”. Her source material comes from a variety of modern sources including: old Blue Note record covers, Canadian logos, 1960s paperback books, Latvian magazines, Swiss posters, as well as work from the Bauhaus. You can see more of her work at her website or her blog, www.hueandsaturation.tumblr.com.

Joey Camacho

Joey Camacho is a designer & DJ currently working out of Calgary, Canada. This beautiful typographic poster series called Daft Life caught my eye on the Wanken blog (Shelby White’s wonderful blog). I love the clean, dimensional type against the rougher, textured background. Simple messages, effectively delivered. We have a winner!
